Northeast Indiana Flooding: Roanoke
Roanoke, Ind.
experienced a dangerous increase in flooding due to
large amount of precipitation. The Roanoke fire
department and EMA acted quickly and efficiently to help
the local community.
In the early
morning hours Roanoke firemen and EMA blocked off roads
that would be extremely hazardous to drive through,
evacuated homes that were in areas of dangerous floods,
and sand bagged buildings that had high water levels.
The workers acted quickly and because of this they
prevented people from harm.
The Huntington
County Red Cross provided assistance to the firemen and
EMA with refreshments. The workers put in a lot of long
and strenuous hours. The Red Cross' disaster volunteers
also gave shelter to a woman, who was not able to live
in her home for a couple of days.
The flooding was a
source of trouble to the Roanoke community, but it did
help to prepare the firemen, EMA, and the Red Cross in
the act of a disaster.
